- Jio has four IUC top-up packs with free data benefits.
- Last week, Reliance Jio dropped a bomb on its subscribers by announcing that the users will have to pay for outgoing calls until December 31, 2019. The call charges have been implemented to counter the IUC charges Jio has to pay to other operators. There has been a massive controversy surrounding this move by Jio and all subscribers along with other operators have been quite vocal with their issues regarding this. However, Jio has something to soften the blow for its customers.
According to a report from Telecom Talk, Reliance Jio is currently trying to soften the blow of paid outgoing calls by offering free IUC minutes to its subscribers. All Jio users who are currently making a new recharge on their Jio numbers will get 30 minutes of free IUC minutes for outgoing calls to other networks. Jio hasn’t announced it publicly but subscribers making new recharges are notified with SMS. This comes as good news for those who have been wondering what to do after they have made a new recharge.
However, Jio is restricting this good news for a limited period of time. The report mentions that the 30 minutes worth of free talktime is only limited to those who make a recharge within seven days from the date of the announcement. Hence, by that logic, every Jio user making a recharge before October 17, i.e. Thursday should get 30 minutes of free talktime. That might be just enough for frequent callers to make it to the end of the month.
Jio in its statement said that it has been struggling to pay the IUC charges to other operators as it offers free voice calls to its customers. The operator even dropped the ring time for outgoing calls to 20 seconds in a bid to control over the IUC costs. However, the telecom industry protested and Jio had to raise it back to 25 seconds. And so far, Jio says it has paid almost Rs 13,000 crores as IUC charges to other operators.
While Jio is charging its customers for all calls to other networks, it should be noted that Jio is still offering free calls to other Jio numbers and landline connections.
