Hi friends, Although Google Phone App has been on the Play Store for a while, only certain devices have got the support for its Call Recording feature. This list of OEMs include Xiaomi, Nokia, and of course Google’s own Pixel devices. Now, an XDA’s finding reveals that Google is working to let you record anonymous calls automatically.
[1/10, 08:54] Tech Stuff: According to the report, an APK teardown reveals a lot of new strings added to the Google Phone App‘s Version 59(v.59). These strings of code have keywords like “Always record”, “non_contact_toggle_key”, “Numbers not in your contacts” etc. That is, if this makes it to the working build, the app will record calls from unknown numbers on its own.
Google Phone App introduced the recording feature last year. As always, it was initially limited to the Google Pixel users. Later, Google brought it to certain regions including a lot of Xiaomi devices in September and Nokia smartphones in May 2020. Speaking of which, Global variants of Xiaomi devices already ship with the Google Phone App out of the box.
