Realme 6 to come up with G90 MediaTek chipset

The Realme 6 series of smartphones may launch as early as February, with price tipped to start at roughly Rs 10,000″

Rumours around the Realme 6 series have been swirling around the internet since November last year, giving us a few details around the smartphone. Now, a new Wi-Fi Alliance listing has revealed some of the key Realme 6 specifications. These include the MediaTek Helio G90 processor, Android 10, and dual-band Wi-Fi support. There has been no official word regarding the Realme 6 India launch yet, but we can expect the series to go official soon since the company has already picked up the BIS certification for the handset.
Realme 6 specifications
According to the Wi-Fi Alliance listing, the Realme RMX2001 smartphone – which had been previously confirmed as the Realme 6 – will be powered by the MediaTek MT6785T chipset. This chipset’s marketing name is MediaTek Helio G90 – it should be noted that this SoC is different from the Helio G90T that powers the Redmi Note 8 Pro. In fact, Realme 6 might just become the world’s first smartphone with this chipset as no smartphone yet carries the chipset.

Realme 6 price, launch timeline, and design
Realme 6 with model number RMX2001 has been certified by BIS in India and IMDA in Singapore in the past; the latter had confirmed the name of the smartphone. A leaked live image of the smartphone showed it will feature a rather huge, centre-aligned hole-punch to accommodate the selfie camera. The image also showed the thickness of the bezels around the display and dual-SIM support, but not much else.
The tipster also claimed the Realme 6 price will be around RMB 1,000, which translates to roughly Rs 10,000. This is not a surprise since the Realme 5 price also started at Rs 9,999 at the time of launch
As for when the Realme 6 will launch, the IMDA, BIS, and Wi-Fi Alliance certifications suggest the launch may not be too far. In fact, Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth has previously confirmed the brand will launch its first fitness band in the country in February, so we may see the event be headlined by the Realme 6 series alongside a smartwatch. Of course, we’re already nearly halfway into February and the company has made no indications of hosting a launch event, so the unveiling may be pushed to March instead. To recall, the Realme 3 series was unveiled by the company in March last year, so the time also fits.
